Bringing it Back

I have always wanted to wear hats. They look so cool. So, I figured "I'm almost 30 years old, I'm going to be a father soon, there is no reason I can't wear a hat if I want too". Life is too short to not do little things like this if you want too.

This hat is a Akubra Fedora. I ordered it from Hatsdirect in Australia because even with the airmail, the exchange rate is so good that one can get it cheaper then buying in the US. I wore it for the first time yesterday. Really comfortable, soft and it got positive comments from most of my coworkers. I have a great wife that tolerates my eccentricity. That, and I look all kinds of dapper in it. So I've been wearing it around for a couple of days and I really like it. I haven't received any comments from strangers, but that's fine with me. My goal is simple: Bring Back the Hat.

Nice hat! You'd fit in well in NYC. Fedoras are still heavily worn by men in trench coats here. I saw at least one fedora everyday on the train over the fall, winter, and spring.

From the expression on your face, it looks like the hat might be a little tight or you're very serious about hat wearing.

It looks sharp.

Dapper indeed

No, it's not tight. While I have a enormous head (7 5/8 Long Oval, or 61cm), I was able to obtain the right size. I actually had to send back a size 60 (7 1/2). That look on my face is my game face. Grrr! Or I was hungry.

That is a dame fine chapeau, mon frere. Damn fine.

And the look on your face totally says, "You understand that if we don't find a stiff out here, we leave a fresh one." -- Miller's Crossing

Well done. Millers crossing is one of the less quoted Mob movies. My favorite scene is the one with the Old Man and the Tommy Gun. Well done. Pretty much, if you put a Thompson SMG in a movie, I'll watch it.

Very nice. I'm right there with you trying to bring back the hat. I think they look awesome too. Also, the southern sun hates my nearly albino irish flesh.

My problem with wearing a hat is what to do with it. You go inside, you have to take it off. But then you're holding a hat. I've been wearing a boonie hat, which has the benefit of being crushable and has a chin strap.

Well, if it's in a bar, you can keep your hat on if your at the bar. If it's a resturant, you have to take the hat off. The knee is a good place to keep it. Public places, like hallways, you can keep it on. Classrooms or offices/cubicals you can keep it on. If you work in a factory, I think you can wear a hat on the plant floor. If you look at old pictures you'll see guys in factories wearing hats.

Soon it will be to hot for this mighty hat. When that happens, I'll switch to my Desert Storm era boonie hat, much to Mrs. TOK's chagrin. I'd like a nice straw hat, but they don't look as cool. There are some vintage "summer" felt hats such as the Stetson Stratoliner. My mellon preclueds wearing such hats, as the 7 5/8 was not a common size. But if your a 7 3/8 or smaller, you might find on on Ebay.

The hat looks good, but then you almost have to dress a little nicer to wear it. I don't think it would go well with a t-shirt/mesh shorts in the summer.

You raise a good point. Pretty soon The Hat will be put away for the summer. You really do have to wear at least a collared shirt with it. Just one more reason why October thru April is the best time of year.
